Nicola Peltz Beckham sues pet groomer over death of her dog
The 29-year-old actress was left heartbroken following Nala’s death last month, which she said occurred just two hours after HoundSpa employee Jony Ceballos groomed the dog, and has now filed a lawsuit against Ceballos, HoundSpa LLC and company owner Deborah Gittleman in New York State Supreme Court, Westchester County.
In the lawsuit, Nicola alleges that Nala’s death was caused by Ceballos’ alleged “intentional and malicious mistreatment of the dogs.”
“Nala entered the grooming van as a happy and healthy dog, but came back injured and with serious physical problems: she had a blue tongue, fluid in her lungs and neurological damage. Nala was put on oxygen and cared for while Nicola watched in distress and emotional distress as her dog suffered,” the statement said.
According to People, the lawsuit accuses the company of “reckless and malicious conduct” for keeping Ceballos employed after an alleged “history of complaints” about him repeatedly mistreating animals.
“This case is about holding accountable those who mistreat the animals in their care and shedding light on the lack of protection for pet owners and their beloved dogs and pets,” the documents add.
