Without a doubt, one of the biggest unknowns among scientists, archaeologists and researchers has always been how the ancient Egyptians they were able to create structures like the Pyramids of Giza approximately 4,500 years ago, without technology. An unknown that happens with so many other wonders of the world.

A new scientific study published in the magazine ‘PNAS’ seems to have found an answer. “Ancient Egyptian engineers exploited an ancient Nile canal to transport building materials and supplies to the Giza Plateau”, indicate the researchers. Nevertheless, there was no evidence as to when, where and how these structures developed.

The importance of the Nile for the construction of the Pyramids of Giza

In this sense, new paleoecological analyzes have helped reconstruct the fluvial history of the Nile 8,000 years ago in this area, showing that ancient waterscapes and higher river levels from about 4,500 years ago facilitated the construction of the Pyramids of Giza.

“To fill this knowledge gap, we use pollen-derived vegetation patterns to reconstruct 8,000 years of fluvial variation in the Giza floodplain. After a high level concomitant with the African Humid Period, our results show that the Giza waterscapes responded to a gradual insolation-driven aridification of East Africa, with the lowest levels of the Nile recorded at the end of the Dynastic Period.”explain the authors of the study.

In this way, the study concludes that the people who were dedicated to the engineering and construction of ancient Egypt had to exploit a channel of this river to transport the necessary materials for the creation of the pyramids.

According to the investigation, the port, which supplied the engineers with the materials and supplies necessary for the construction of the pyramids, It was located approximately seven kilometers west of the current Nile River. In such a way that the researchers conclude that the inlets of the river must be deep enough to transport all this material.

So, the researchers highlight the importance of the river as a key resource in the ancient society of Egypt, not only for transportation, but for agriculture and food, due to its high levels.
