Netflix launches in Spain the option to add extra subscribers to limit shared accounts

After several months of tests and trial balloons, Netflix has announced that the option to add extra subscribers, which aims to limit the habit of sharing accounts with people outside the home, is now available in Spain among other countries such as Portugal and Canada. There are currently more than 100 million users who access Netflix with a shared account, a practice that the company streaming wants to tackle

The Add Extra Subscribers option allows Netflix Standard and Premium plan customers to add sub-accounts for up to two people they don’t live with. Each of these sub-accounts will have its own profile, personalized recommendations, username and password, at an additional cost of 5.99 euros per month per person in Spain. In Portugal it will be 3.99 euros per month. Users who want to move their profile to their own paid account while retaining recommendations, history, My List, saved games and more can use the Profile Transfer option.

Given the new policy of limiting shared accounts, Netflix has implemented a series of control measures over who can access the account. One of them is setting the primary location so that subscribers “can use their Netflix account by everyone in your household. What if I go on a trip? “As always, subscribers will be able to watch Netflix on their personal devices or sign in on another TV (at a hotel or vacation rental, for example),” the company says.

The different characteristics of the Netflix plans: Basic with ads (5.49 euros per month), Basic (7.99 euros per month), Standard (12.99 euros per month) and Premium (17.99 euros per month) .

“We’ve always made it easy for people living under one roof to share their Netflix account with features like profiles and multi-screen viewing,” says Chengyi Long, Director of Product Innovation. “While they’ve been hugely successful, they’ve also caused some confusion about when and how you can share Netflix. Now, there are more than 100 million households that share their accounts, which reduces our ability to invest in the creation of great stories, told with series and films of the highest quality.

“We value our subscribers and understand that many entertainment options are available to them. Each Netflix account is designed for a single household, and subscribers can choose from multiple plans with different features,” adds Long.
