Netflix confirms that subscribers spend an average of two hours a day viewing content and increases its prices

Netflix has announced that subscribers to the streaming platform pass two hours on average daily viewing the content that it offers and has announced a change in the price of subscriptions in Spain, which will become one euro more expensive in the case of the Standard plans (with and without ads) and two euros in the Premium.

The company presented its third quarter earnings report this Thursday, where it indicated that closed the quarter with a net profit of 2,364 million dollars (2,181 million euros at the current exchange rate) -compared to the 2,147 million dollars of the previous quarter- and that its income grew by 15 percent year-on-year, up to 9,825 million dollars (9,060 million euros).

In this period, Netflix has also managed to increase its number of subscribers to 282.72 million, with a growth of 5.07 million paying users compared to the previous quarter and 35.57 million in one year.

In this sense, it has announced that it hopes to continue accelerating its growth in income and profits, as well as the number of subscribers, investing both in its main offering of movies and series “as well as in advertisements and games”, as it has clarified in this document.

The company has also recalled that it will soon be the second anniversary of the launch of its advertising-supported plan, which is making “good progress” and proving “to be popular.” Thus, this plan represented more than 50 percent of subscriptions in the countries where it exists and has grown 35 percent quarter over quarter.

The incorporation of this modality has not stopped the consumption of content in this service, because “participation in Netflix has good health“, as the firm has pointed out in the document, where it has revealed that subscribers spend an average of two hours a day on the platform. This, “despite the impact on the use of shared accounts”, against which it has fought through of different functions designed to be seen in a single house.

“Paid sharing reduced the number of views on shared accounts. Additionally, when these users purchase their own subscriptions, much of those views are reflected in viewing timewhich influences the trend of hours viewed per subscription,” the company noted.

It has also indicated that as the households that own these subscriptions are isolated, the viewing hours recorded in those households “increased year after year” in the first three quarters of this year.

It is worth remembering that in the previous presentation of its financial results, in April of this year, it announced that would stop offering quarterly data on the number of subscriptions and regarding average revenue per subscriber (ARM) as of the first quarter of 2025.

The company would have made this decision given that, as it has varied its rates and plans from one to several levels with different prices depending on the country, each membership registers a very different commercial impact.

In this way, the multinational will continue to offer a breakdown of its income by region each quarter and exchange rate impact. Additionally, you will make announcements regarding subscriber milestones as you pass them.

PRICE INCREASE IN SPAIN

The on-demand content platform has also recalled that, since this Friday, it has raised the rates of its different subscription plans both in Spain and Italy, with an increase of between one and two euros in the case of the former.

In this way, as already reflected in the Web page of Netflix in Spain, the standard plan with ads it is now priced at 6.99 euros per month – compared to the initial 5.49 euros – while the standard plan without them now costs 13.99 euros. Finally, the Premium plan It is offered for 19.99 euros per month.

This change in its prices began at the beginning of October in some countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) plus Japan and is the result of work dedicated to improving its monetization “by perfecting” their plans and prices, as the company has stated in the presentation of its accounts.
