In his speech at the Meeting “Nearshoring Talks 2024: Challenges for the new Coparmex government of Mexico City, he said that it is not that there is no planning in Mexico, but there are many and very diverse plans, “the issue is that They do not coincide in objectives, times and certainly not in budget and monitoring”, but that is intended to change for the next administration.
In this context, he highlighted the importance of regional development planning, where the south-southeast is included.
“70% of the investment is concentrated in 7 states of the republic and the idea is that precisely the phenomenon of relocation helps us reduce inequalities, not increase them.”
The idea is to grow efficiently and with fewer errors, which is why 10 industrial corridors and 22 welfare development poles have been proposed with specific vocations that are part of the national relocation strategy.
This plan is divided into: strategic policy; priority and strategic sectors and infrastructure; Gómez acknowledged that the protagonists of nearshoring in Mexico will be entrepreneurs, since public and private co-investment is needed “we have to team up as a country to attract the best investments.”
For example, in the case of infrastructure investment, historically the public budget is very little, and at least 150,000 million more pesos are needed.
“In this decade, Mexico has the opportunity to become the undisputed leader of the new form of globalization with nearshoring and also of the new form of capitalism, betting of course on investments that positively impact the environment, communities and in terms of of governance”.
