MADRID Jan. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Around a dozen civilians have been killed and around 20 injured in new artillery attacks carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against a camp for displaced people in the city of El Fasher, in western Sudan. .
The civil organization General Coordinator of Displaced Persons and Refugees has specified in a statement published on its account on the social network Facebook that the “violent” attack by the RSF has resulted in at least eleven deaths and 18 injuries “of various degrees”, without that the RSF has spoken out on the matter.
Thus, he has detailed that the attack, which he has called a “new massacre”, was perpetrated during the day on Monday against the Abu Shuk displaced persons camp and has added that “heavy weapons” were used in it, in the midst of the siege. of the RSF against El Fasher, capital of the state of North Darfur.
The paramilitaries have been imposing a siege on El Fasher for months to try to take control of the city, in the hands of the Armed Forces. Since then, civil organizations and the United Nations have reported hundreds of deaths in attacks against the city and the displaced persons camps located in its surroundings.
The war between the Army and the RSF broke out in April 2023 due to strong disagreements regarding the integration process of the paramilitary group – now declared terrorist – within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the derailment of the open transition after the overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir’s regime in 2019.
