Musk resigned from the board of directors under the argument of a conflict of interest, since Tesla was developing its own AI system for the autonomous driving of its vehicles and they could steal talent from each other, something that, in fact, did happen.

The conflicts between Musk and OpenAI did not wait and in March of this year it was announced that the tycoon sued the co-founders of the AI ​​company, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, arguing that the makers of ChatGPT failed to comply with their obligations. original agreements by seeking financial gain rather than fulfilling the nonprofit’s founding mission of developing AI that benefits humanity.

That’s when company co-founders Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Schulman and Wojciech Zaremba, mentioned in a blog that while they were discussing turning the company into a for-profit structure, Musk “wanted us to merge with Tesla, he wanted full control.”

OpenAI’s profits have skyrocketed in recent years as it has become the leading player in the growing field of AI.

Musk alleges that the startup prevents its investors from supporting rival companies, which would put his own startup at a disadvantage.

OpenAI was born as a non-profit company but later became a “limited” for-profit entity. It is currently seeking to become a public benefit corporation, which would allow it to attract greater investments.
