The son of the current president of Uganda, the controversial General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced through a message on his Twitter account that he would stand for the 2026 elections in the country, to later delete it, all less than a year after was ousted from his position as head of the Ugandan Army after tweeting that he could take the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, “within two weeks.”
In the now-deleted message, Kainerugaba advocated representing the “young people” of the country, a possible criticism of his father, President Yoweri Museveni, 78.
“How many of you agree that our time has come? We have had enough with the older people ruling over us. Dominating us. It is time for our generation to shine,” he said in another message, which he has not deleted, according to the newspaper. Ugandan newspaper ‘Nation’.
In October 2022, Kainerugaba had to apologize for another series of tweets in which he claimed that it would “only take me and my Army two weeks to take Nairobi”, as well as asking “where should I live once the Army ( Ugandan) take Nairobi”.
These tweets led to his dismissal as head of the Army, despite the fact that his father insisted that he is “a good general” and promoted him in the military career, amid suspicions that he is being prepared to replace his father in the position of president, according to ‘Nation’.
