MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023: Meet the winners

() — After a crazy week full of production changes at the MTV Movie & TV Awards amid the writers’ strike, a motley crew of stars were presented with golden popcorn statuettes on Sunday.

The blockbuster film “Top Gun: Maverick” joined the television series “Stranger Things,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus” and “Wednesday” for the most nominations among fiction content. Leading Nominations in Non-Scripted Content Categories [reality TV] shows like “Jersey Shore Family Vacation,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” and “Vanderpump Rules” were situated. Jennifer Coolidge received the award for comic genius, while the award for best musical moment went to Purple Hearts for “Come Back Home.”

The annual ceremony was originally to be hosted by Drew Barrymore, but she announced Thursday that she was stepping down as host in support of the writers’ strike. Although some of Barrymore’s segments already they had been recorded before Before the strike began, the ceremony continued without an official presenter. In a statement, Barrymore promised to return as a presenter for the 2024 edition.

Following news that striking members of the Writers Guild of America were planning to picket the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, where the event was filmed, executive producer Bruce Gillmer told that the MTV Movie & TV Awards ” distancing themselves from a live event” and broadcasting a prerecorded version of the ceremony on Sunday.

Part of that turnaround during the broadcast included flashbacks from previous editions of the MTV Movie & TV Awards, which made up an overwhelming majority of the show, along with pre-recorded speeches from the winners.
