Aug. 21 () –
The rescue ship ‘Geo Barents’, of the NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF), has saved more than a hundred migrants this Sunday after receiving an alert from the Italian authorities during exercises in Mediterranean waters.
These are 106 survivors, including 26 women and 42 minors, who are “safe and sound” on board the ship, Doctors Without Borders has made known on its Twitter account.
MSF has specified that the boat had left the coast of Turkey five days ago and that among those rescued there is a pregnant woman and seven children between 1 and 4 years old who “must reach a safe place as soon as possible”.
“We are slowly sailing back to Italy while awaiting instructions from the Rome coordination center for disembarkation procedures,” added the NGO.
