The NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has treated 160 injured people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in the context of the recent fighting in the province of North Kivu after the takeover by the March 23 Movement militias ( M23) of Masisi, capital of the homonymous territory in the northeast of the country.

“Between January 3 and 6, teams from Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and the Ministry of Health treated 75 injured people at the Masisi General Referral Hospital and the Nyabiondo Referral Health Center,” he said. explained the head of the MSF mission in North Kivu, Stéphane Goetghebuer.

Likewise, another 84 wounded have been treated at the Numbi hospital and the Minova reference hospital, located in the province of South Kivu, as detailed by the general coordinator of MSF in the southern province, Julien Gircour.

The health centers have also offered refuge to civilians in the context of the clashes between the M23 and the Congolese Army, which in recent days have extended to the border between North Kivu and South Kivu.

Around 102,000 people have fled their homes in less than a week in the context of the conflict, which has shaken this area of ​​the northeast of the African country for years, according to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). .

The M23 militias have resumed their large-scale offensive in the province in recent weeks, specifically in the territory of Masisi, finally taking control of its main city, Masisi-center, on Sunday.
