MSF denounces three dead and 27 injured in a bombing against a hospital in the Sudanese city of Omdurman

Clashes between the Sudanese Army and the RSF leave 18 civilian victims in two days in North Darfur (Sudan)

June 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least three people have been killed, including a local volunteer, and another 27 have been injured in a bombing that took place this Wednesday at the Alnau Hospital, in the Sudanese city of Omdurman, an important urban center located next to the capital, Khartoum. , reported Doctors Without Borders (MSF), which provides support to this health center.

“Attacks on health facilities should be unthinkable, but we see them frequently in Sudan. This has to stop now,” the NGO stated through its profile on the social network largest operational general in the city and is equipped to deal with the influx of war wounded, which is why it receives “a large number of medical emergency cases” daily.

MSF has noted that “this is not the first time that Alnou Hospital has been affected by random violence”, since in October a projectile hit the emergency department, killing two patient assistants and injuring five other people.

This attack has coincided with the end of the second visit to the country since the outbreak of the conflict by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, who has warned that “without concerted peace efforts, many more people will flee the brutal war in Sudan and towards neighboring countries.

Grandi, who has visited refugee and displaced persons camps, noted that “the level of suffering is truly disproportionate,” adding that “Sudan is the definition of a perfect storm: horrific atrocities against human rights, with millions of people uprooted by this insane war and other wars that preceded it.

In addition, he has warned that a “terrible famine” is looming and that “severe floods will soon further hinder the delivery of aid”, for which he has expressed “deep alarm at the magnitude of the humanitarian emergency.”

Clashes in Northern Darfur

In the last two days, 18 people have been killed in air and artillery attacks against several cities in the Sudanese state of North Darfur, especially in the state capital, El Fasher, the epicenter in recent weeks of fighting between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Abu Shouk displaced persons camp, in this city, suffered this week a bombardment by the RSF that left 14 dead and 25 injured, including women, children and the elderly, according to the ‘Sudan Tribune’ newspaper. which reminds that El Fasher has been a battlefield for more than a month, when the clashes have intensified.

To the northwest of El Fasher, in Kutum, the Armed Forces have carried out several airstrikes that have caused the death of four civilians. Eyewitnesses have reported that fighter jets dropped explosives on civilian infrastructure, including a school and residential areas. Kutum is under the control of the RSF, who use this place as a strategic point against El Fasher.

The war broke out on April 15, 2023 due to strong disagreements regarding the integration process of the paramilitary group – now declared a terrorist organization – within the Armed Forces, a situation that caused the definitive derailment of the transition opened in 2019 after the overthrow of the Omar Hasan al Bashir regime.
