About the tumultuous and fraternal relations between Colombia and Venezuela, we interviewed the Colombian writer Melba Escobar, author of ‘When we were happy, but we didn’t know it’. We also discussed the situation in Venezuela with the RFI correspondent in Caracas, Víctor Amaya.
Colombians and Venezuelans are very close. The expression has even been coined: “Colombia and Venezuela, sister countries.” In a not too remote past, in fact, Colombia and Venezuela formed a single country.
To this we must add that a few years ago, hundreds of thousands of Colombians migrated to Venezuela. Recently, thousands of Venezuelans migrate to Colombia.
“There is something of a biblical story in all this,” says the writer Melba Escobar. This Colombian is the author of “When we were happy, but we didn’t know it, four trips between Colombia and Venezuela in apocalyptic times.”
We also interviewed Víctor Amaya, RFI’s correspondent in Caracas, taking advantage of his visit to Paris. Among other topics, we discussed with him the opening of the Colombian-Venezuelan border and why Maduro was not present next to Petro to celebrate it. As well as a UN report that denounces torture, sexual violence and inhuman treatment in Venezuela against opponents, journalists, social leaders.
