Manual coding is on its last legs, NVIDIA CEO predicts

“There is not a single software engineer in our company today who does not use code generators,” the entrepreneur said at a Goldman Sachs event this week.

He explained that this type of Artificial Intelligence software has been created by them, with code language created by NVIDIA and other already known languages.

And that all of these software capabilities, combined with NVIDIA’s infrastructure, could mean that “the days when every line of code was written by software engineers are completely over.”

He also explained that NVIDIA’s future is also for “each of our software engineers to have digital engineers working with them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

And this would happen on a massive scale. According to Huang, NVIDIA’s 32,000 employees would be surrounded by 100 times as many digital engineers, writing code.

“Generative AI is not just a tool, it’s a skill, and that’s why a new industry has been created,” he explained. “For the first time, we’re going to create skills that empower people,” he said, giving as an example the whole range of assistants that could exist thanks to the generative AI revolution, from drivers, SAP digital agents, logistics, customer service, etc.

And, regarding the investment that AI and specialized chips for AI tasks are receiving, he pointed out that there will be a significant return, since there is currently a shortage of infrastructure for the demand for, for example, GPUs. He assured that although the cost of computing expenses may increase twofold, the computational processing time is reduced by 20, which means a 10-fold saving in total computing costs.

This demand, explained by Jensen Huang, caused NVIDIA shares to rise by almost 8% on Wednesday, after several sessions with falls.
