The Malian authorities have criticized the UN mission in the country (MINUSMA) for concealing the efforts made by the Government to stop violence in the region in one of its latest quarterly reports, published the day before.
“Like the previous notes, this one does not highlight the efforts made by the Malian authorities to protect and promote Human Rights, particularly in terms of training and awareness,” reads a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, echoed by this Thursday ‘L Essor’ and dated March 22.
The Mali Ministry of Foreign Affairs has thus reacted to the data published by MINUSMA in its latest report, which states that between October 1 and December 31, a period of three months, there were 347 Human Rights violations. , which represents eight percent less compared to the previous period.
The text also reports that 2,001 people have been affected by acts of violence in 2022, with 1,277 dead, 372 kidnapped or disappeared, and 352 injured. The balance of deaths implies an increase of 54 percent compared to the previous period, although there have been 58 percent fewer kidnapped or disappeared people (744 in 2021).
Given these data, Mali has assured that MINUSMA has not provided sufficient details about the cases investigated to allow the Government to take action. Likewise, it has criticized the approach and the sources used by the mission to carry out its investigation.
Mali, like other countries in the Sahel, has registered an increasing number of jihadist attacks in recent months, carried out both by the Al Qaeda affiliate in the region and by the Islamic State, which has also increased intercommunal violence and caused the displacement of tens of thousands of people.
