Magma emerging to the surface

Watching magma emerge from underground and form a lake of liquid fire is undoubtedly a fascinating and frightening spectacle that only a privileged few can see up close, although at the risk of a certain level of danger. The magma lake shown in the photograph was formed in Iceland. That volcanic episode has been the subject of a recent study by a team led by James Day and Savannah Kelly, both from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, part of the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) in the United States. The study is entitled “Deep crustal assimilation during the 2021 Fagradalsfjall Fires, Iceland.” And it has been published in the academic journal Nature. (Source: NCYT by Amazings)
