Luis Rubiales is released after being held for interrogation by the Civil Guard

The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, had been arrested this Wednesday, April 3, at the Barajas airport, coming from the Dominican Republic. Rubiales, who was interrogated for nearly two hours, was released and made available to what the judge in charge of the case known as 'Operation Broddy' decides. The former sports leader is being investigated for alleged crimes of business corruption, unfair administration and money laundering, in the midst of an investigation into RFEF contracts from 2018 to the present.

The objective of the arrest was to read him his rights, interrogate him and intervene on his mobile devices.according to sources cited by the EFE news agency.

Rubiales was abroad when the scandal broke out on March 20 over the so-called 'Operation Brody' after the search of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard at the Federation headquarters. The authorities investigate alleged corruption due to irregular RFEF contracts that would have taken place since 2018, a stage in which Rubiales was in front of the sports organization.

Under the framework of this investigation, Luis Rubiales – along with other people related to the Spanish Football Federation – is being investigated for the alleged crimes of corruption in business, unfair administration and money launderingby the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 4 of Majadahonda, in Madrid, highlights the local press.

His detention took place after last Monday, April 1, the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard (UCO) registered, together with security forces from the Dominican Republic, Rubiales' temporary accommodation in the Caribbean nation.

Furthermore, his home in Granada, in the south of Spain, was searched by the authorities on March 20, within the framework of the same judicial operation.
