Logitech is working on it ghost projecta cabin concept for video calls similar to Google’s Starline project, which generates the effect of projecting the person with whom a meeting is held in a space without resorting to holograms.
The company specializing in computer accessories has presented this Tuesday the Ghost project, a booth for video calls that it develops in collaboration with the office furniture brand Steelcase.
His proposal, for now a concept, is based on a semi-enclosed designer space, including a sofa, and a video conferencing system based on Logitech proprietary technology, with a screen, microphones and speakerswhich generates the effect that the other person is present during the conversation, which is known as telepresence.
For this purpose, the company use an angled glass, which projects the image of the other person, instead of resorting to holographic technology, as Google does in the Starline project. It also generates the eye contact effectthanks to the camera placed behind the glass.
The company intends to launch this cabin next year, as it has shared with The Vergebut first it will be shown to those attending the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) fair, which is being held this week in Barcelona.
For its part, Google announced the Starline project at the 2021 developer conference, a communication system that works as a window in which you can make eye contact with another person, life size and 3Dand has started tests with companies to find out the effectiveness of this system.
