launched E-Hidup, the digital edition of the Catholic weekly

The new project of Majalah Hidup, the Indonesian Church newspaper published since 1946, is already underway. Cardinal Suharyo: “We hope it will meet the expectations of the younger generation, moving them spiritually and motivating them to spread the Gospel.”

Jakarta () – With a celebration presided over by the Archbishop of Jakarta, Card. Ignatius Suharyo, the Indonesian Catholic weekly Majalah Hidup has launched its new digital edition. The platform bears the name E-Hidup and takes the tradition of the newspaper that has been published in Indonesia since 1946 to a new dimension. Already in 2014, a first digital platform was created, which was later joined by Hidup TV, which also offers the live broadcast of the most important events in the life of the Catholic community; From September 24 it is also possible to consult the entire weekly on the Internet.

The Card. Suharyo presided over a special mass in the Jakarta Cathedral, in the presence of the publication’s director, Father Harry Sulistyo, the members of the editorial staff and all those who follow with affection the life of the Catholic media in Indonesia. “Given the serious setback suffered by the print media in the last decade due to the massive spread of digital devices – Fr. Sulistyo explained to – we chose this path. And so we hope to be able to reach more and more readers with this modality, which can be accessed at any time and anywhere in the country”.

“We hope that E-Hidup meets the expectations of the younger generation – adds Card. Suharyo – who wants information and news that are easily accessible. And through this tool we hope that she will be spiritually moved and motivated to spread the Good News.”

The weekly Majalah Hidup was first published in Dutch in 1946 under the original name Het Katholieke Leven (“The Life of Catholics”). However, as early as 1950, articles began to be increasingly written in Bahasa, the official language of Indonesia.
