The story of Tactics Ogre: Reborn is set in the Valerian Islands, whose situation in the Obero Sea has transformed them into a port of passage for maritime trade. Due to its economic power, the fight for control of these lands has faced three factions, Gargastan, Walstanian and Bakram, in a war that seemed to have no end. After many years of conflict, Dorgalua Oberyth, known as the Dynasty King, brought peace and prosperity to Valeria for half a century. However, his death sparked a civil war that once again plunged the islands into a power struggle between the three warring factions.
In Tactics Ogre: Reborn, players will follow the story of a young man, Denam Pavel, caught in the center of the conflict. “Though he seeks a path of freedom and justice, players will soon discover that even the noblest of goals requires decisions that are impossible to achieve,” reads the game’s official synopsis. Denam Pavel’s mission will be to confront the Galgastanis and the Bakram leaders in order to bring peace to the Walisteans, who have been persecuted for a long time. Throughout the campaign, Pavel will need to set up a group of loyal allies and recruited units.
The decisions that the players make at certain points in the story will condition the development of events.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn’s combat system allows you to control a number of units on the battlefield and strategically use turns to gain the advantage over the enemy. During the confrontations you have to adapt to each situation depending on the movements of the rival and take into account the differences in height and depth of the stage. As progress is made, more characters can be recruited, with their respective class, weapons, spells and abilities. Each unit has its own separate level, a change from the 2010 game’s per-class level management.
In the list of improvements for Tactics Ogre: Reborn we also have some remastered graphics “that improve and at the same time respect the particular visual style of the original”, voices for the scenes in English and Japanese, re-recorded soundtrack with orchestra, redesign of the combat, updated AI, and interface simplification and improvement.
