The story of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn takes place in Kian, a world whose people viewed the stories of gods and magic as mere myths. This changed ten years ago with the abrupt opening of the Entrance to the Great Chasm, allowing the gods and the dead to march into the world of the living and ravage the city of Alba. In response, the Coalition was born, an organization created by volunteers from many nations who formed a makeshift army. They failed to defeat the enemy, but they did manage to contain them within the city walls. However, the Entrance to the Great Chasm remained open, which began the siege of Alba.
Ten years later, and thanks to the advancement of gunpowder technology, the Coalition approved a mission behind enemy lines to blow up the Gateway. The mission failed, and the Coalition’s interference had catastrophic consequences. Now, the gods who crossed the Gateway alongside the dead are truly free in the world, each intent on shaping it into their own idea of perfection. With humanity fighting for survival, players take on the role of Nor Vanek, a member of the Coalition who travels across Kian seeking vengeance, accompanied by a fox-like god known as Enki.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn features a combat system that “drinks from the genre” souls-like and combines its elements with fast-paced movement to create dynamic and explosive combat,” reads the official description. The system encourages the interweaving of melee attacks, artillery, and magic. The latter element is handled by Enki, who imbues combat and movement skills with his powers. Additionally, using Enki’s magic fills a meter that once filled allows you to execute a powerful attack to strip the armor of the toughest enemies or kill them in one hit.
With each encounter, Nor Vanek will gain reputation, which he can use to upgrade weapons and armor and unlock new skills belonging to one of three paths: Gunpowder, Magic, or Steel.
