() — Kelly Clarkson says she won’t get married again, but she’s open to finding love again. She also recounted how she vowed to support her children as they adjust to the reality of the divorce.
The singer recently opened up about her split from Brandon Blackstock, the father of her two children, and the impact it has had on her family.
“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re together, ‘Are you happy? And if you’re not, what could make you happier?’” Clarkson said on “The Angie Martinez IRL Podcast.” “’Sometimes,’ they say, especially in the last two years. And it affects me and I want them to be honest, so I never say, ‘God, don’t tell me that,’ but a lot of times they say, ‘You know, I’m really sad. I wish mom and dad lived in the same house.'”
He then added: “I am raising those kinds of people. I want them to be honest with me.”
Clarkson said that growing up in a family of divorced parents helped her better understand the feelings around it.
“I just sit with them and say, ‘I get it. I also come from a family of divorced parents. I understand. It sucks,’” she said. “But we’re going to figure it out. And we both love them very much. I think about communicating with them and not treating them like adults, because they are not, but also not treating them like children. They are not minor feelings. They are great feelings, and they are great emotions.”
Clarkson and Blackstock split in June 2020, with the singer saying it was because of irreconcilable differences. She mentioned that while she doesn’t plan on remarrying, she does want to find love.
“I’m not getting married,” he said. “In my life, I’ve been through a couple of divorces in my own family growing up. I would love to fall in love. I would love to find someone and fall in love and do that, but I have kids and that’s why I’m saying it.”
