The interim government of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó announced that his delegate in the Organization of American States will not attend the general assembly of the organization that opens this Wednesday in Lima, Peru, so that the “rejection of some countries” by your participation do not hinder the debates.

These positions have led the debate in the General Assembly to focus, instead, “on the credentials of our delegation, even stating that they will not adhere to the resolutions approved with the presence of Venezuela,” always according to the leader. opponent.
“To prevent this debate from being generated again and to ensure that our work and that of the OAS are not affected, we decided that it is best not to participate in this session of the General Assembly,” he then specified in his statement.
Guaidó’s office indicated that it was not “an easy decision”, although it was made “taking Venezuelans as a priority, so that they continue to have a voice and representation in the OAS” that defend their rights.
He also stated that a delegation from Chavismo will defend “the systematic violations [de los derechos humanos de los venezolanos] appealing to the pretext of alleged interference in internal affairs and obsolete formulas of absolute sovereignty”.
The interim government of Guaidó stressed that, in the last three years, it participated in three sessions of the General Assembly of the hemispheric organization and communicated to its member states “the actions of the Nicolas Maduro regime that violate the rule of law, as well as serious and systematic violations of human rights.
The announcement of the non-attendance of the opposition delegate Gustavo Tarre at the Lima meeting comes a day after the government of Antigua and Barbuda presented a draft resolution to the OAS Permanent Council to revoke the acceptance of a permanent representative designated by the Venezuelan National Assembly of 2015.
According to the mission of Antigua and Barbuda, its motion has the support of 10 nations: Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Dominica, Granada, Mexico, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. The OAS meeting will last until Friday, October 7.
