Jo Mersa Marley, reggae artist and grandson of Bob Marley, dies at 31

() — Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, a reggae artist who followed in the footsteps of his father, musician Stephen Marley, and his grandfather, the late reggae star Bob Marley, has died, Miami police told .

He was 31 years old.

Marley was found dead inside his parked vehicle in Miami on Monday night. Police are investigating his death, but said they do not suspect a crime. The Miami-Dade coroner is conducting an examination to determine his cause of death.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness mourned the death of Marley, who was born in Jamaica but grew up in Miami.

“This is truly sad news; I am sending strength to the Marley family at this time,” Holness wrote in a tweet on Tuesday.

Jamaican opposition leader Mark J. Golding tweeted: “The loss of a child is a devastating blow that no parent should face, my condolences to Stephen and all the family.”

The young Marley was a reggae artist in his own right and released his first EP, “Comfortable,” in 2014. He released another EP, titled “Eternal,” last year.

He is best known for his 2016 hit “Burn It Down” as well as “Rock and Swing” from the “Comfortable” EP.

According to WZPP Radio, Marley is survived by his wife and daughter. Other surviving relatives include his father Stephen and several siblings.
