The Japanese authorities have deployed several combat aircraft on Thursday after detecting two Russian aircraft in their airspace a day after the Government confirmed the delivery of military vehicles to Kiev in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff has explained that a Russian plane advanced towards the Pacific Ocean through the Sea of Okhotsk and then turned in the opposite direction, while another flew from the Sea of Japan, turning towards the island of Sado, in Niigata prefecture. .

“We responded to these actions (by Russia) with fighter jets from the Northern Air Defense Force (Self-Defense Air Force),” the Japanese Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, without providing further details.

The Government of Japan announced on Wednesday that it had delivered a hundred military vehicles — trucks with a capacity for a dozen people and machinery — to Ukraine following an agreement reached with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky.

The Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, specified that Tokyo plans to deliver 470 million dollars (436 million euros) within the framework of the agreement reached by the parties, in addition to 30 million dollars (27.8 million euros) for the acquisition of non-lethal materiel through NATO funds.
