Military forces from the United States and Japan began their joint firing exercises this Sunday in the city of Yamato, island of Kyushu (southern Japan), in maneuvers characterized by the unprecedented use of Javelin anti-tank missile systems.
Some 1,400 troops from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces and some 700 from the United States are participating in the maneuvers, which will last until September 9, according to the military statement collected by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
This Sunday, the maneuvers have focused on a live fire drill with the participation of some 150 soldiers from both countries.
In the drill, the military have practiced precisely with the Javelin missile launcher to attack targets at a distance of approximately 2,000 meters.
