I've made my Apple Watch battery last three times as long with a single adjustment: this is how I did it

The point is that, although this has been implemented for two years at Apple, what I find on a daily basis is that users They are not clear what happens when we activate it. For fear of losing functionality, it is not usually activated, making the battery life much, much shorter.

Saving mode has been on Apple watches for a while, but many users are still not clear what it does and if it is worth keeping it active all the time.

The Apple Watch's saving mode is a function that has made me rethink what I really need from the watch and how often I need it to measure each parameter of my body and sports performance. Saving mode deactivates some secondary functions of the Apple Watch such as the always-on screen, the double-tap gesture, heart rate notifications for irregular pulse, high frequency and low frequency (it is not recommended to activate it in case we have irregularities or heart problems ), background measurements of blood oxygen and heart rate, as well as reminders to start training.

In other words, the watch stops measuring in the background and disables gestures. Likewise, if the iPhone is not close to the watch, disable WiFi and incoming calls (this only happens if the iPhone is quite far from the watch, in normal use they work perfectly).

Give up background measurements in exchange for almost triple the battery life. In my particular case, it's worth it. In normal use, the battery on my Apple Watch Ultra dies after two and a half days. With economy mode, I have managed to reach almost seven days of use, an absolute outrage. In the case of the “non-Ultra” Apple Watch, it has been difficult for me to get below three and a half days of use, when they usually lasted just over a day.

How to activate saving mode on the Apple Watch

To activate the Apple Watch's saving mode, you just have to follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Scroll down, then tap Drums.
  3. Activate Battery Saver mode

Likewise, if you don't want to keep it active all the time, you can activate the saving mode during training from that same menu. This way, every time you start a workout, the functions described will be deactivated.
