Three Americans, a German and a Palestinian were attacked with bats and iron bars while planting trees
UN special rapporteur calls for accountability for ‘violent settlers’
Jul 22. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli pro-Palestinian NGO Looking the Occupation in the Eye on Sunday denounced “violent attacks” by Israeli settlers against several of its members, including several foreign citizens, while they were planting trees in the West Bank, at which time they were attacked with bats and iron bars, as seen in images published by the organization.
“Sticks, iron bars and stones, injuries. Jewish settler-terrorists have violently attacked Palestinians and Israeli and foreign activists who were planting trees in the village of Kusra, south of Nablus. Soldiers fired into the air, but did not arrest anyone,” the NGO reported on its X social media account.
Among the members of the organisation attacked were three US citizens, one German and one Palestinian, some of whom were injured as a result of the beatings in an attack that took place “without any reason”, according to an Israeli security official quoted by the same NGO.
“This is not the beginning of a joke. It is the description of a sick reality that Israeli society has created in the occupied territories. A reality of Jewish terrorism directed against anyone who does not conform to the laws of racial supremacy,” the organization added.
The UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, has called for accountability for “violent settlers” across other countries in the face of the passivity of the Israeli authorities.
“Violent settlers must be held accountable. Since Israel has proven unwilling or unable to bring them to justice, other countries must do so,” he wrote on his X account.
In this regard, he recalled that the recent decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to reject the Israeli settlement policy in the West Bank makes UN member countries have the “obligation” to reveal the list of their nationals residing in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, especially when they “commit crimes against the illegally occupied population.”
