Israel intercepts a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip

Feb. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israel has reported this Wednesday that the air defense system known as Iron Dome has intercepted a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip towards the border city of Sderot.

“A launch was detected from the Gaza Strip that was intercepted by air defense fighters,” the Israel Defense Forces said on their Twitter profile, which had warned shortly before that alarms had been activated in the zone.

The local authorities of Sderot have also confirmed that no projectile fragment has fallen in the city, since the rocket has been intercepted by the anti-aircraft system, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

Tensions in the area have risen in recent months following the death of around 30 Palestinians so far this year in security operations and clashes with Israeli security forces.

On Friday, seven people were killed in an attack carried out by a Palestinian in the Neve Yaakov settlement, while two other Israelis were wounded on Saturday after being shot by a thirteen-year-old Palestinian.
