The Government of Iran has said this Monday that the latest contacts in Doha for the reactivation of the 2015 nuclear agreement were “positive”, although it has accused the United States of attending the meeting “without a position based on initiative and progress” .
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian, has conveyed to his French counterpart, Catherine Colonna, Tehran’s willingness to reach an agreement and has emphasized that “the path to diplomacy is open”, according to a statement published by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on its website.
“It must be seen that the United States wants to take advantage of the diplomatic opportunity,” he said, before stressing that “repeating previous positions should not replace a political initiative.” “We are serious and honest when it comes to achieving a good and stable agreement,” she stressed.
In this sense, Amirabdolahian stressed that “Iran has always adhered to its obligations and expects the other parties to fulfill theirs properly”, after the indirect contacts in the Qatari capital, Doha, were settled without an agreement.
For his part, the Iranian chief negotiator, Ali Baqeri, affirmed on Sunday that contacts are underway to determine the next place and date of the meetings on the reactivation of the nuclear agreement through talks with the European Union negotiator on the Iran’s nuclear agreement, Enrique Mora, according to the Iranian television channel Press TV.
The US administration said it was “disappointed” after the talks between US and Iranian officials in Doha. Thus, he regretted that the talks are stalled and criticized that Tehran has not responded positively to the initiative of the European Union (EU).
The talks in Qatar came after months of deadlock after numerous rounds of talks in Vienna, Austria, failed to achieve a breakthrough. The United States withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 with then-President Donald Trump, and Iran has increasingly tightened restrictions on its nuclear program.
