Intel has announced the splitting your group of dedicated graphics cards into two groups, one for gaming and one for GPUs for data centers and compute acceleration.
In the process, Raja Koduri has been relegated to his former post working as one of the company’s chief architects. The one who was one of Intel’s star signings in his race to enter the dedicated GPU market, was promoted to lead the AXG Graphics Group division, which is now split in two. Raja Koduri was already in charge of AMD’s graphics division, since he left to join Intel and end up leading the company’s graphics division.
It seems that this restructuring, at least in the short term, does not imply the abandonment of Intel’s dedicated graphics market, since the company will continue to bet on the current roadmap of Intel Arc and its next generations and architectures after the current Alchemist, like the upcoming Battlemage architecture.
The “gaming” dedicated graphics division will be integrated into the Intel Client Compute Group, while the graphics part for data centers will be integrated into the AI and Data Center business unit, with their corresponding managers.
For his part, Koduri has assured on Twitter that he has had to undergo back surgery and is recovering, so he will be out of work for at least a month.
