How to follow the debates of the most important intergovernmental conference of ECLAC from October 9 to 11

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will hold its Fortieth sessionthe most important biennial meeting of this regional organization of the United Nations, where it will present its transformation proposal to advance towards a more productive, inclusive and sustainable development model in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The meeting will be inaugurated on Wednesday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. local time (UTC/GMT -5) by Dina Boluarte Zegarra, President of Peru; Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (by video), and José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC. A representative of Argentina, the country that holds the Presidency of the thirty-ninth session of ECLAC, will also participate.

During the meeting, in which representatives of the 46 member states and 14 associate members of ECLAC will participate, as well as researchers, academics, representatives of civil society and international officials, the Commission will present the position document Latin America and the Caribbean facing development traps: essential transformations and how to manage themwhich will be presented by Executive Secretary José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.

Likewise, a meeting of foreign ministers and high authorities from the member countries of ECLAC will be held that will focus on discussing the results of the Future Summitwhich was held on September 22 and 23, 2024 within the framework of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
