Honduras considers that China has "much to offer" in energy or commercial matters

March 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Honduran Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio García, has recognized that China has “much to offer” in energy, education, trade or infrastructure, thus defending the change of direction of Tegucigalpa, which over the weekend broke diplomatic ties with Taiwan in favor of Beijing.

“Now we are beginning to work with China and with the establishment of relations, development plans will be agreed upon,” García acknowledged, who also stressed that the “Asian giant” has invested huge amounts of money in Latin America, and that part of that financing You can go to Honduras.

However, the Honduran Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs has stressed that the idea of the Xiomara Castro government is to maintain “equitable trade” with China, rejecting at all times that Beijing is going to “maintain” Tegucigalpa, according to the local newspaper ‘El Herald’.

The Government of Honduras broke diplomatic ties with Taiwan over the weekend, thus turning its international policy in favor of building bridges with Beijing and adhering to the “one China” theory, which suggests that the island of Taiwan belongs to the ‘Asian giant’.

Thus, the Honduran authorities have granted Taiwanese diplomacy a period of 30 days to withdraw its Embassy in Tegucigalpa. Both China and Honduras are now expected to name diplomatic representatives for each country.
