PAKISTAN
In the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, there were yesterday Clashes between police and supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, held in jail for more than a year. Many protesters who took to the streets to once again protest against the current government were arrested. The city is on high alert due to a series of diplomatic events planned for the coming days, including the visit – the first since 2015 – of foreign minister of IndiaS. Jaishankar, and a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
MALAYSIA – BANGLADESH
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, who recently visited Bangladesh, announced the decision to receive 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who had not met the hiring deadline in May of this year. according to a survey of Nikkei-TV Tokyoin recent days the approval rating for new Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, reached 51%, the lowest since 2002. Fumio Kishida had an initial approval rating of 59%. The study also shows that critical comments about the new Executive exceeded favorable ones, 44% and 32% respectively.
THAILAND
The city of Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, was submerged underwater due to monsoon rains. The Ping River yesterday reached the highest level ever recorded. One of the most affected places is the Elephant Natural Park, where animals that have been mistreated are housed. Some of them drowned, but authorities said 117 were taken to safety.
ISRAEL – LEBANON
As Israeli attacks on Lebanon intensify, several countries announced the evacuation of their citizens, including Chinawhich transported 200 people – including some from Hong Kong and Taiwan – and South Koreawhich evacuated a hundred people with military planes. A recent Israeli attack on the Beddawi camp in northern Lebanon killed a Hamas military officer, his wife and two daughters, and 2,000 people have been killed so far across Lebanon.
RUSSIA
The Russian authorities have decided to allocate 95 billion rubles, almost one billion euros, to isolate “Runet”, the patriotic Internet network, and disseminate “moral and spiritual values” between 2025 and 2027, with the aim of affirming the “network sovereignty.” 60 billion will be dedicated to the fight against VPN services and the rest to the dissemination of values.
KYRGYZSTAN – RUSSIA
The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Zhaparov, intervened in defense of the rights of immigrants in Russia in the face of new rejections and the resulting crowds at Russian train stations and airports. He stated that “all citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union must receive equal treatment in all member states,” including Russia.
