Madrid 16 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, has lamented the “brutal cycle of violence” that hosts the inhabitants of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has reiterated his call to the dialogue between the parties in conflict in favor of the sovereignty and the integrity of the country.
“In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Congolese people have been suffering, once again, a brutal cycle of violence,” said the United Nations representative in a shared message this Sunday in their account on social network X.
Guterres has insisted that “sovereignty and territorial integrity” of the Democratic Republic of the Congo must be respected and that, for this, the current “stagnation must end” and the “dialogue must begin.”
Previously, the secretary of the organization has condemned the advances of the M23 and its conquests of the rubber and bukavu towns, respective capitals of the provinces of Kivu Norte and Kivu Sur, declaring its fear of the regionalization of the conflict.
“In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as more cities fall, the risk of a regional warfare falls. It is time to silence weapons. It is time for diplomacy and dialogue,” Guterres said during his speech of opening of the summit of the African Union in Adís Abeba (Ethiopia).
“There is too much at stake. The Congolese people – and the peoples of the region – deserve peace,” he said.
