Artificial intelligence was born to make life easier for human beings, but perhaps what few imagined is that it would also have been born to prolong the life of human beings themselves.

OpenAI has developed an artificial intelligence model that could improve the efficiency of stem cell production.

According to reports from MIT Technology Reviewthey have created a model called GPT-4b microin collaboration with the startup Retro Biosciences dedicated to increasing the longevity of human beings.

This new artificial intelligence model is designed for the topic of protein engineering. This model can visualize proteins capable of converting normal cells into stem cells.

It has little to do with AlphaFold from Google DeepMind that predicts the shape of proteins, but rather the OpenAI model It is more designed for biological research.

In this way, the first OpenAI model based on biological data was born and could even pave the way for a future General Artificial Intelligence.

To make the GPT-4b model possible it has previously been trained with protein sequences from various species and data on how the proteins interact.

The model is smaller than others seen from OpenAI, but is specifically focused on this specialized task.

This project started a year ago, and Retro Bioscienceswho interestingly is linked to Sam Altman, contacted OpenAI to see what could be done.

Since that time, GPT-4b micro has been created to redesign protein factors and thus increase their function.

For this, the researchers made use of the suggestions of the model to change two of Yamanaka’s factors so that they were 50 times more effective.

Yamanaka factors are a set of four key proteins that when expressed in adult somatic cells can be reprogrammed to return to a pluripotent state similar to that of embryonic stem cells.

That is, it is as if they restored a cell to its factory settings, and this would affect its longevity and thus human beings can live longer.
