Google Drive will drop support for Windows 8 and 8.1 soonat least according to the information provided by the company itself in a blog postgiven that Google will end support for both versions in August of this year, along with the 32-bit version of Windows 10.
The Google Drive desktop application allows you to synchronize files and folders on your computer with Google’s cloud storage service, as well as make backup copies of photos and videos in Google Photos, but as of August this year, Windows 8 and 8.1 users, as well as those using the 32-bit version of Windows 10, will not be able to use the app.
However, this update does not mean that affected users cannot access Drive through their browsers, as long as they use one that is compatible with their operating systems, although as often happens, it is recommended to update such equipment with a more modern operating system.
Microsoft stopped providing security updates and technical support for these operating systems in January, while Google released the first version of Chrome that doesn’t support Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 in February.
