The Google Pixel 4 was the last terminal to have facial recognition until the launch of the Google Pixel 7, a recent batch terminal that has a less secure facial recognition system than the one we found in the Pixel 4. This originates from a European standard that indicates that users can make up to five contactless payments before requiring SCA (Strong Customer Authentication), something that also takes into account the amount of the payment and will not be required in the case of payments of less than 100 or 150 euros, depending on the country.
The reason the Pixel 4 was more secure than the Pixel 7 is because it uses the front-facing camera hardware for authentication, where the Pixel 4 had measures to prevent authentication spoofs.
