Google Chrome is the browser with the most recorded vulnerabilities, according to a study

Google Chrome It is the browser that has reported the highest number of vulnerabilities in 2022, since more than 300 errors have been registered from January to October of this year.

It is one of the conclusions reached Atlas VPN in a recent study, for which the information provided by the VulDB vulnerability database has been used.

Focusing on the total number of vulnerabilities (including those with fixes) and not the severity of those bugs, this report finds that Google Chrome It is the browser used by most users.

That would also be the reason why it is not only listed as the browser with the most vulnerabilities this year, when has reached a total of 303, but also throughout its history, since it also tops this list with a total of 3,159 accumulated vulnerabilities.

The study also cites some of the latest Google Chrome vulnerabilities, including CVE-2022-3318, CVE-2022-3314, CVE-2022-331, CVE-2022-3309, and CVE-2022-3307.

In this sense, it should be noted that all these vulnerabilities can cause damage to the system and loss of information, can be removed via a browser update to the version 106.0.5249.61.

Google Chrome is followed MozillaFirefox, that in the period of time between January 1 and October 5, 2022, a total of 117 vulnerabilities were registered, and Microsoft Edge then with 103.

According to the data collected by Atlas VPN, this latest browser registered up to 61 percent more errors than in the entire year 2021, which means “an unusually high figure” for a browser that, since its launch, has only had 806 vulnerabilities.

On the other hand, the browser developed by AppleSafari, registered in 2022 the lowest figures in years, despite the fact that its number of users recently exceeded one billion.

So, this browser, second most popular worldwide, documented 26 vulnerabilities in the first three quarters of this year and 1,139 since its release in 2003.

Opera, on the other hand, has not seen its security compromised this year, since Atlas VPN puts the number of vulnerabilities recorded from January to October at zero. Furthermore, throughout his active life he only has accumulated 344 vulnerabilities.

From Atlas VPN they remember that, despite the difference in the data recorded between these browsers, both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge and Opera they are based on the open source version Chromium. For that reason, all of them can face the same failures.

To keep the devices safe, from this cybersecurity company they recommend keeping the browser updated, to have access to the different security patches launched as a result of noticing these vulnerabilities.

Atlas VPN also warns about the importance of being careful with ‘phishing’ attacks and advises against opening emails or messages from unknown senders or opening attachments from unsafe sources.
