Too good to be true. A few days ago a Game Boy emulator for iPhone appeared on the App Store; however, Manzana delete it as soon as possible. Now we know the reason behind this decision.
The application in question is called iGBA and disappeared from the virtual store Manzana over the weekend for violating app review guidelines related to spam and copyright. The software is a knockoff of developer Riley Testut's open source GBA4iOS app.
According to Macrumors, Manzana proceeded to eliminate the emulator after discovering that it was an imitation that copied the work of another developer and tried to pass it off as its own. The company specified that App Store emulators can load ROMs downloaded from the Internet as long as they only run retro console games.
A curious fact about the statement by Manzana is that the App Store had approved the functionality of iGBA before learning that it was a copycat application. This suggests that Nintendo's Game Boy emulation is allowed for iOS devices but Apple has not shared any other similar examples.
Could it be that we will be able to play titles of game boy in the future? The panorama is complicated. The App Store's app review guidelines were updated in early April and state that emulator developers are “responsible for all software” offered in the app, including compliance with “all applicable laws.” While, Nintendo noted that downloading pirated copies of its games (ROMs) is considered an illegal practice.
That is how Manzana It may well approve any emulator of Nintendo games, but the responsibility of addressing the claims of the Japanese giant will fall to the developer, a complicated situation for any mortal.
