After the pronouncement of Álvaro Urrea, president of the Association of Refrigerators of Colombia (Asofricol) and who said that the price of meat in the country would drop 15%, Friogán, another union in the sector, spoke out and assured that it is not possible to lower the prices of this food.

Friogán, which is a chain of refrigerators for the slaughter of bovine cattle, asserted that “the president of the Association of Refrigerators is deceiving and misinforming public opinion due to the lowering of meat prices announced at the national level”.

He clarified that Asofricol only represents a small group of refrigerators in the country, which does not reach 20%, and maintained that these statements “are leaving aside the majority companies in the livestock market.”
And he reiterated that it is not possible to say that meat can drop by 15% because “it is a statement that has no economic foundation.”
(See: Refrigerators will receive investment to export).
Friogán explained that the price of meat products in Colombia is divided into 90% the value of cattle and only 4% in service costs, so “he does not see a discount for consumers as viable.”
He concluded by indicating that it is necessary for Asofricol to rectify its statements, considering that “the entire country is being misinformed and did not take into account the participation of the other refrigerators that are not part of that association.”
