After the closure of the Nintendo eShop, access to hundreds of games on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U was lost. However, among all the bad, there was one positive for Pokémon fans, since the Pokémon Bank storage application would become completely free. when some were already celebrating this, they found bad news.

Users who have ever used and therefore downloaded Pokémon Bank to their Nintendo 3DS system are the only ones who will be able to use the application on their Premium plan at no cost from now on.

How to enjoy Pokémon Bank completely free?

It was enough to download the application from the Nintendo eShop when it worked, which could be done at no cost. Once in the app, users could select between the Free or Premium plan. Unfortunately, users who did not do this will never be able to use Pokémon Bank.

Users who have once purchased and downloaded Pokémon Bank on their console, but deleted it for some reason, will be able to download it again through the Nintendo eShop, as this is one of the few features the nearly useless app offers.

Users who have ever downloaded Pokémon Bank on their console simply have to enter the application and Brigette will greet them by indicating on the game screen that a “free trial” is in progress that will last for a certain number of days. This is a generic term that you should not take into account, since the service will be constantly and automatically renewed.

This free service will not last forever, but so far The Pokémon Company has not revealed when the support end date will be, so we recommend sending all stored Pokémon to Pokémon HOME as soon as possible.

There is a problem with Pokémon Transporter that hinders Pokémon Bank

What’s the downside? Well, this application, like Pokémon HOME, offered a free plan, which limited users to only 1 Storage Box, so it was necessary to buy the Premium plan for just under $100 MXN per year to be able to store up to 3000 creatures. on the Internet by account.

Something interesting is that Pokémon Bank also offered Poké Transporter, a tool that allowed Pokémon from Generation V to be taken to Pokémon Bank. It was the only way to get Pokémon from Generation III to Generation IV (via Pal Park) and then to Generation V and then use the Poké Transporter to take them to Pokémon Bank and then to Pokémon HOME. Without a Poké Transporter, older Pokémon cannot make it to Pokémon HOME.

The problem is that this tool was only unlocked if the user had the Pokémon Bank Premium plan. According to The Pokémon Company, this plugin would also be free. But something curious happened, because players who never paid for the Premium plan were never able to download the Poké Transporter (it was impossible to find it individually in the Nintendo eShop, but it was necessary to pay within the application to be able to download it). So, if you downloaded Pokémon Bank, but never paid, you don’t have Poké Transporter and can’t download it now because of the Nintendo eShop shutdown; therefore, they cannot access this tool at all.

LEVEL UP had access to both apps before the Nintendo eShop shutdown, so was unable to verify these issues, but reports from various users are already surfacing.

In case you missed it: How to bring old Pokémon to Pokémon BANK and then to Pokémon HOME?

Pokemon Red & Blue & Red & Yellow and pokemon crystal from the Virtual Console were also compatible with Pokémon Bank, but for this you needed the Poké Transporter. So if you downloaded any of these games to get shiny Mew or shiny Celeby, but you don’t have a Poké Transporter, you’re in trouble.

Taking into account that the Nintendo eShop and Wii U applications will be able to update despite the closure of the Nintendo eShop, it is possible that The Pokémon Company will solve this error so that all users (whether they have ever purchased the Premium plan or not) can enjoy all the features of the app.

However, taking into account that Poké Transporter is an application itself, it seems difficult for Game Freak to offer it, since the Nintendo eShop has already closed and the only thing that the games or applications can offer are updates to them themselves and not applications. apart.

As if that were not enough, there are other players who indicate that they cannot use Poké Transporter if they did not have a Pokémon Bank Premium plan at the time the eShop closed, which also prevents them from using the tool, although there are some who report that despite that their plan expired, they can use it. The exact cause of the problem is unknown, but apparently a solution to this is more feasible, thanks to an update by Game Freak.

We will keep you informed.
