September 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

French President Emmanuel Macron and the United States government on Sunday congratulated Algerian President Abdelmayid Tebune, who was re-elected with 94.65 percent of the vote in Saturday’s election.

“(Macron) warmly congratulates President Abdelmayid Tebune on his re-election as President of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria on 8 September 2024, and wishes him every success,” reads a statement from the Elysée.

In this regard, the French Government has explained that it is “particularly attached to the exceptional relationship that unites it with Algeria” in terms of economy, history, mobility, education, culture, security and the fight against terrorism, after which it has highlighted the “vital” dialogue between both nations in the context of international relations.

“Strengthened by the bonds of friendship that unite France and Algeria, the President of the Republic, together with President Tebune, intends to continue with determination the ambitious work initiated with the Algiers Declaration to renew the partnership that unites our two countries,” the letter said.

For his part, the spokesman for the United States Department of State, Matthew Miller, congratulated Algeria on the holding of the elections and expressed his willingness to continue deepening cooperation between the two nations to build a “more prosperous and peaceful world.”

“We want to consolidate our strong bilateral relationship through economic, cultural and regional cooperation. Algeria is a valuable partner in promoting global peace and prosperity,” Miller added.

Tebune received 5,329,253 votes, placing him far behind the second-placed candidate, Abdelaali Hasani Cherif of the Peace Society Movement, who received 178,797 votes, or 3.17 percent. Third place went to Yucef Auchiche, with 122,146 votes (2.16 percent). Auchiche is the candidate of the Front of Socialist Forces.
