Four soldiers killed after Colombian Army helicopter crash

( Spanish) — Four soldiers died this Sunday after an Army helicopter crashed in Quibdó, Chocó, Colombian President Gustavo Petro reported through his Twitter account.

In one of the messages, Petro indicated that the aircraft “rushed” ashore while “fulfilling supply tasks”. She did not elaborate.

The Colombian National Army confirmed on the institution’s verified Twitter account the names of the fatalities in the accident: Captain Héctor Jerez Ochoa, Lieutenant Julieth García Cordero and second sergeants Johan Orozco Neira and Rubén Leguizamón Perilla.

In 2020, Lieutenant Garcia Cordero, 31, became the first female Army pilot to crew the UH1N helicopter.

“I have given the order to the authorities to move immediately to the area to deal with the emergency and investigate the causes of what happened,” the president explained.

In another message on the same platform, Petro reported that “it is with sadness that I regret to inform that there were no survivors in the plane crash in Quibdó”.
