Fortnite announced its new Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine for its players

Now, under this new scheme, Fortnite wants to promote a more important “Creators economy” within the same ecosystem. Using Unreal 5.2 as a graphics engine and with compensation schemes for creators of up to 40% of the revenue in the store, the game will allow creativity to be developed in an unprecedented format.

Not just because of the technical capabilities of the new graphics engine, but because it points to what the Metaverse has tried to create: an ecosystem of game creators, monetization, and audience in one place.

In addition, in search of promoting the same creation of video games within Fornite, these tools will be useful for small studios, since they allow reducing costs and time. They can work directly in this ecosystem and with the unification of all the company’s marketplaces (the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab, Quixel Bridge and the ArtStation Marketplace) in a single space called Fab, which will bring these studios closer to a greater number of digital resources and more publication formats of these experiences and videogames.

How powerful is Unreal Engine 5.2?

What stands out the most is the creation of video games or CGI. Such was the case of the creation of complete environments made for Matrix: Resurrections, where the entire city was made in this graphics engine.

However, it begins to find applications outside of entertainment, for example, the Rivian electric car brand uses this tool as the basis for the user communication interface. The car’s sensors were linked in order to render in real time the distance to other cars or people and display it on the car’s screens, giving the driver safety and environment information in a simple and accurate visual way.

In addition, the function called Meta Human Animator was added, which allows the use of an iPhone or high-fidelity camera to reproduce facial movements in an animation created in Unreal, generating a faithful reproduction of a person’s movements and moving them to any character.

These tools were already used professionally by companies such as Cubit, Kabam, and video game studios for PC or mobile. However, with the opening within the Fortnite ecosystem, a range of possibilities was opened for creatives, developing programmers, amateurs and even video game enthusiasts with a whole set to develop triple A games without the need for large studio expenses.

It promises to revolutionize the way we conceive of video games and the metaverse, the components of tools, active community and creativity seem to come together, it remains to be seen the future of the industry under the umbrella of the already market leader Tencent.
