With a series of workshops to be held in the three provinces of the Region, the FEM Biobío Program, run by the University of Concepción (UdeC)began its activities in 2023.
The target audience for these meetings are women, because The purpose of this project is to work with more than 300 girls, adolescents and women entrepreneurswho were selected to participate in these training sessions, where entrepreneurship and innovation are fundamental aspects of this proposal, as stated by, Pilar Pardo, director of the FEM Biobío Program.
“We know that there are gaps that we must overcome through the union. What better than public organizations, academia, the civil world, unite with great women of the Region to retain local talent, which is the first thing that we want from the University of Concepción and second to be able to endure the work we have been doing for years. several years, both as a university and as a Regional Government, because we women have always been in a scenario that we would like to have more participation in,” she said.

One of the deficits that exists is the participation of women in the sciences, a situation that has literally dragged on for centuries, therefore, for the start of this series of workshops, which began with the one held in the Salvador Gálvez auditorium of the Concepción campus of the UdeC, the guest was Barbarita Lara, computer engineerawarded as “Chilean Innovator of the Year” and one of the 100 leading women of 2020 and 2018, who was in charge of giving the workshop “Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Learning to be a Chilean inventor awarded worldwide” who makes sense of the work that is being done in the area, around empowering women to occupy and participate in all areas without any restrictions.

“I think that these activities in the summer are very important, being here and showing these girls roles and female references that exist, that they are there and being able to tell them a story is relevant, that is why we sacrifice a little time on vacation to be with them and tell them yes, that we are Chilean, that we are from the regions, that we are women, and that great things can be done with technology, with innovation and entrepreneurship,” she commented.

The inaugural workshop held this Monday in Concepción will be joined by one in the province of Arauco this Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m., at the Isidora Ramos de Lebu Bicentennial High School.
While, In Los Angeles, the activity will take place on Wednesday, January 11 at 11:30 a.m. in the Manuel Rioseco Auditorium of the University of Concepción in said city.
Thus, FEM Biobío seeks to contribute to the generation, formalization, scaling and competitiveness of enterprises led by women.
The initiative is financed by the Regional Government of Biobío, through the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC-R) and developed by the University of Concepción, through the Faculty of Engineering and the Institute of Technological Research (IIT).
