MADRID Jan. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Al Fatah, the party of the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has rejected this Wednesday the accusations made by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) about its alleged participation in the Israeli Army operation in Jenin and has denounced that both the group such as the pan-Arab network Al Jazeera are “distorting the facts” about the campaign by Palestinian security forces in this northern West Bank governorate.
The Palestinian formation has warned in a statement collected by the WAFA news agency that “the calls of some leaders of Hamas, Al Jazeera and some external parties whose objectives are consistent with Israel’s demands aimed at destroying the cities and camps of the West Bank , distorting the facts regarding the achievements of the Palestinian security forces in the ‘Protect a Homeland’ campaign.”
Fatah has in particular urged Hamas to “stop calling for (…) the hateful division that is foreign to the culture of our Palestinian people and not to fall into the networks of the enemies (…) and the self-deception”, hours after the latter has accused the security forces of the Palestinian Authority of “participating” in the operation launched on Tuesday by the Israeli Army against the West Bank city of Jenin (north), which has so far left at least ten dead and more than 40 injured.
Furthermore, he has defended that “the achievements of the Palestinian security forces in the Jenin governorate and its camp have occurred despite the deception carried out by elements of the Islamic State”, whom he has accused of “arming and financing the destruction and the brutal massacres committed” by the Israeli Army in the Gaza Strip.
Finally, he has asked all factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) for “greater cohesion and unity”, ensuring that they “will assume full responsibility for preserving the achievements made (…) on the path to the end of the hateful occupation”.
These statements by Al Fatah come after both Hamas and Islamic Jihad have criticized the Palestinian security forces, blaming them for having facilitated the Israeli Army’s “occupation” of the Jenin camp.
The Jenin refugee camp has been the scene in recent weeks of clashes between the security forces of the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian militias, including the armed wing of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, incidents that have resulted in nearly a dozen dead.
Furthermore, Jenin and its refugee camp have been the epicenter of Israel’s military operations for months, within the framework of its rebound in operations in the West Bank following the attacks perpetrated on October 7, 2023 against Israeli territory, which They left around 1,200 dead and around 250 kidnapped.
Since then, Palestinian authorities have put the death toll from operations by Israeli forces and attacks by settlers at more than 850, while more than 47,100 Palestinians have died from the Israeli offensive against Gaza, according to Gaza authorities. , controlled by Hamas.
