Goal has announced changes to Facebook’s penalty system for which will prioritize explanations of why the user has broken the rules and had a post removed instead of temporarily banning the sharing of new content, a move he believes helps reduce recidivism.

This change responds to a recommendation from the Advisory Council for the platform to adopt “a more proportionate and transparent approach with higher infringement and penalty thresholds”, and prioritizing explanations of why the rules have been violated with a given publication.
“The vast majority of people in our applications have good intentions,” says Meta in his official blogwhere he acknowledges that when faced with the removal of a post “they don’t understand what they did wrong or if they were affected by a content application error“.
For this reason, the technology company has announced that with the new system, “instead of quickly restricting your ability to post,” what it will do is explain the reasons why the content has been removed.
However, the restrictions will continue to exist, although with the new system they will act from the seventh notification, for repeat offenders. In this sense, the company points out that “Almost 80% of users with a low number of notices do not violate policies again in the next 60 days“, according to internal analysis.
“This means that most people respond well to a warning and an explanation,” they say from Meta. For the “most serious” offenders, the immediate restrictions will be maintainedespecially for those who share content about terrorism, child exploitation, human trafficking, promotion of suicide, sexual exploitation, sale of non-medical drugs or promotion of dangerous people and organizations.
