BRUSSELS, Jul 30 () –
The European Union approved 2.4 million euros in emergency humanitarian aid on Tuesday to deal with the floods in Bangladesh, the Philippines and India.
These funds will help provide cash assistance, food, access to clean water and sanitation and other essential services in the areas most affected by the floods, which in Bangladesh are added to the damage caused by Cyclone Remal last May.
Of the total approved funds, 1.2 million will go to Bangladesh and India, where the EU has already allocated 30 million for refugees and host communities affected by the latest climate emergencies.
In the Philippines, another 1.2 million euros will respond to the most pressing needs in Mindanao, where the rains have caused flooding, intensified by the passage of several typhoons. The EU has allocated 3.1 million euros to the island country this year to deal with crises and floods.
At least 36 people have died as a result of Typhoon Carina hitting the southwest of the Philippines, a meteorological phenomenon that has been joined by Tropical Depression Butchoy, which has also caused havoc in the area.
