April 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, criticized this Friday the United States veto of Palestine's entry as a full member of the UN, but he clarified that “he did not expect anything else” from the Administration of the American president, Joe Biden. , given his position on foreign policy.

Erdogan noted during a press conference that “the whole world supported Palestine”, although “unfortunately, the United States took a stand with Israel”, according to information collected by the newspaper 'Daily Sabah'.

A total of 12 countries voted in favor – including Russia and China – while the United Kingdom, another permanent member, has abstained, as has Switzerland. In this way, Palestine will continue to be an observer in the United Nations General Assembly, a status it has had since 2012.

Regarding the latest events in the region following the early morning attack carried out by Israel against Iran, Erdogan clarified that “Israel is saying one thing and Iran another.” “We have not heard a single reasonable comment from either party,” he said.

Previously, Turkish authorities have warned of the danger of a “permanent conflict” in the Middle East region and have stressed that Ankara is closely monitoring the situation.

“The priority of the international community must be to end the massacre in the Gaza Strip and achieve lasting peace in our region through the creation of a Palestinian state,” the Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement.

The Israeli offensive against Gaza already leaves nearly 34,000 dead, to which are added more than 460 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at the hands of Israeli security forces and in attacks by settlers.
